Martha and Kathy work hard to discover the murderer on bike. It reminds me of some of the older mysteries for kids that I would have read while growing up. Think the Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew. Both girls are twelve.

This book received a solid 5. No question.
The book starts with Kathy who has showed up in a new town in New Jersey. It's very different and at first, she is lonely and she's met only one key person in the summer. Janine is a restauranteur who has opened up a class for Kooking With Kids. Her newly minted rich parents sign her up right away. Janine ends up dead. The murder scene is not in the book, so that's a good thing for kids.
As I wrote in my summary, this book I picked up because I'd read such a fine piece of fiction from this new press. I bought it for my neices, twins and thought I'd read it first,Cheap apple imac. I wasn't intending to review it but I was really excited by finding such a fine piece of fiction and that in a nutshell explains how this book ended up being reviewed by me. If I find a good book, I want to tell people about it so onto the book.
What amazes me about this book is how the two girls have their deep characterization done. Kathy has a secret. It's a disability. Martha's parents are broke and this causes her a loss in self-esteem here and there. Both are united to find a murderer but it doesn't mean they always get along. At twelve, they both are totally believable.

Two girls stand in the middle of a trailer that is a complete dump. The edges of the black are illuminated with yellow.
